Death Disk
Mark Twain's 'Death Disk,' written in 1901, is a tragic story inspired by the execution of Colonel John Poyer in 1649. The narrative centers around a child who unknowingly condemns her own father to death, a plot twist that adds a poignant layer to the tale. Originally intended as a tragedy, Twain revised the story to include a miraculous ending suitable for the Christmas season. The story was later adapted into a one-act play staged at Carnegie Hall in 1902 and was also made into a silent film in 1909.
