American Claimant

The American Claimant is an 1892 novel by Mark Twain that explores class differences between the hierarchical society of Britain and the egalitarian ideals of America. Notably, Twain utilized phonographic dictation to write this book, making him the first author to do so. Additionally, it is unique for containing all weather references in an appendix, a first in fictional literature. The story critiques social expectations and the concept of equality in a humorous manner.
