Whisper in the Dark
A Whisper in the Dark, published anonymously in 1877 and later attributed to Louisa May Alcott in 1889, is a dark and melodramatic novella. It follows Sybil, a 17-year-old orphan raised by her uncle and Madame Bernard, who reveals little about her origins. As Sybil uncovers the truth about her past, she experiences love and a harrowing misunderstanding that leads to her imprisonment and near madness.
