These are the terminal letters of the name of the editor, Charles Gildon It is unclear weather An essay on the art, rise and progress of the stage in Greece, Rome and England was bound-in at the time of publication or whether is was inserted at some later date by parties unkown. Several other institutions, including the University of Virginia, hold copies that are bound in this fashion.
