A piratical and almost identical reprint ('B'), possibly by W. Feales, of the 1724 Darby edition ('A') (See Dawson, G.E. Studies in bibliography, 1 (1948-1949): 47-58) There exist three editions of the 1724 Othello, cataloged separately: the original edition 'A'; this edition 'B', a pirated line-by-line reprint of 'A'; and edition 'C', which has different settings of type and ornaments. In editions 'A' and 'B', the final ornament on p. 96 depicts two nudes sitting on an urn; in 'C', it is a shield with two birds on top. In editions 'A' and 'C', "Poulson" falls underneath "John$Dar" in the imprint (where $ symbolizes a space); in edition 'B', "Poulson" falls underneath "$John$Da" ESTC and Ford citations are undifferentiated descriptions for editions 'A', 'B', and 'C' "Price 1s" follows imprint Signatures: A-H́œ Title page vignette; head- and tailpieces; initials Boston Public Library. Barton collection catalogue ESTC Ford, H.L. Shakespeare 1700-1740 Cataloged Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy halfbound in calfskin and marbled paper. This copy is interleaved, with corrections, marginal notes, and commentary by James Plumptre. The interleaved sheets are countermarked with the date of 1830. A sheet of blue notepaper with an inscription by Thomas Pennant Barton is tipped onto the verso of the front free endpaper. The armorial bookplate of the Barton Library is present on the front pastedown, as is the bookplate of H.R. Evans (Henry Ridgely?)
