[56] p. ; 19 cm. (4to) In verse Printer's and publisher's names from STC The imprint date is false; actually printed in 1619 for the Shakespearian collection of that year (see Greg, III, p. 1107-9) First printed in London by Thomas Creede, for Thomas Millington, and Iohn Busby and the rights to the printing first transferred to Thomas Pavier on August 14, 1600 Apparently the London printer, Thomas Pavier, planned to publish a collection of Shakespeare's works based on copies of texts already in print. The players blocked Pavier's publication as they themselves intended to have their manuscript copies of the plays printed (as they did in the first folio in 1623). In order to recover his investment, Pavier pre-dated a number of quartos and sold them as if they were old copies of books he happened to have around the shop. Cf. W.W. Greg, "The first folio and its publishers" in Studies in the first folio (London, 1924) Signatures: A-G⁴ (G4 blank) Woodcut headpiece and printer's vignette on title page; head and tail piece
