Homeward Bound: Sailor's Knots, Part 2.

When Mr. Hatchard discovers his wife has purchased expensive pink vases, his patience finally snaps. Stomping out of the house in a fit of righteous indignation, he declares this the end of their marriage. But within days, the poor man finds himself woefully unprepared for bachelor life: the laundry is a disaster, meals are inedible, and the silence is deafening. So he does what any desperate, humbled husband would do returns home under the most humiliating of guises, posing as a new lodger. Mrs. Hatchard, now happily renting out rooms to lodgers, accepts him in without a hint of recognition. What follows is a delicious comedy of errors, with Mr. Hatchard watching other men sleep in 'his' bed, eat 'his' food, and sit in 'his' chair while silently seething. The arrival of the egregious Mr. Sadler finally forces our hero's hand, leading to a chaotic confrontation that resolves everything in the only way this sort of domestic farce can. Jacobs, master of the comic short, delivers a perfectly pitched tale of marital stubbornness, wounded pride, and the peculiar peace that comes from accepting you cannot live with (or without) your spouse.
