When a tiger escapes from a circus in a sleepy English village, the locals lose their minds entirely. W. W. Jacobs, the master of British humor, turns a simple animal escape into a glorious farce of cowardice, pomposity, and collective hysteria. The sign-painter and an old codger swap tales of the beast, while the entire village transforms into a theater of absurd panic: men barricade their homes, brave souls form ridiculous search parties, and everyone discovers exactly how courageous they aren't when something with claws is on the loose.
