According to both Norton and to Rothschild, vol. 1 was issued in two states. In this copy the peculiarities of format, printing, and publication ascribed to the first edition, second state of vol. 1 are all present. In particular, leaves X4, a4, and b2 are not cancelled. Vol. 2 of this copy is, however, taken from the second edition. See both bibliographies for further detail on the publication history of the various editions Includes bibliographical references and index ESTC Norton Rothschild Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy bound in 19th century tree marbled sheepskin with spines that are panelled in gilt and have both green and red leather labels affixed. All pastedowns are of marbled papers. A bookplate reading, "Jacob Ley, student of Ch. Ch. and Vicar of St. Mary Magdalene, Oxford" is present on the front pastedowns. The errata leaf in volume 1 is wanting
