The Geology of Calvin Coolidge State Forest

The geology of this Vermont forest tells a story spanning hundreds of millions of years. Dodge's guide to Calvin Coolidge State Forest excavates the ancient history buried in its landscape: granite ridges formed during the Precambrian era, glacial deposits from the last Ice Age, and the slow erosion that carved the valleys hikers walk through today. Written for visitors who want to understand what lies beneath their feet, the book reveals compressed seafloor sediments now visible in cliff faces, fault lines threading through bedrock, and glacial erratics scattered like breadcrumbs across the forest floor. It's a guide for hikers, educators, and anyone curious about the deep past embedded in New England terrain.
