The Birds of Australia, Vol. 4 of 7
The Birds of Australia, published between 1840 and 1848 by John Gould, is a comprehensive seven-volume natural history work documenting 681 bird species, 328 of which were previously unknown to Western science. This ambitious survey was created from specimens collected during Gould's travels across Australia, featuring hand-colored lithographic plates primarily based on sketches by his wife, Elizabeth Gould. Only 250 complete sets were printed, making it a rare and significant contribution to ornithology and Australian natural history.
