Australian Writers

Published in the late 19th century, 'Australian Writers' by Desmond Byrne is a literary survey that examines the contributions of significant Australian authors, including Marcus Clarke and Henry Kingsley. The book discusses the challenges of developing a distinct national literature in a young, self-governing country, addressing the cultural context and unique themes within their works. Byrne critiques the overshadowing influence of British literature on Australian writers and advocates for greater appreciation of local literary contributions.
