Welsh Fairy-Tales and Other Stories

Drawn from the mist-shrouded hills and ancient hollows of Wales, these tales arrive from a world where the boundary between human and fairy realms grows thin at twilight. The collection opens with 'The Fairies of Caragonan,' in which the fairy queen permits her daughter to venture into the mortal world, setting in motion an encounter with a bewitched gentleman that will require courage, cunning, and the strange justice of the Otherworld. Here, fairies are not gentle creatures but powerful beings with their own laws, their own vengeance, and their own strange mercies. What distinguishes this collection is its unapologetic moral weight. These are not Disney-fied tales but stories that emerged from a working agricultural culture, where fairy interventions carried real consequences and where disobedience to the hidden folk could reshape a life forever. The witch that must be confronted, the bold human who must be chosen, the line between blessing and curse that shifts with each decision: these are the engines of Welsh folk narrative. For readers who crave fairy tales with teeth, stories where magic demands something in return, this collection offers a window into a folklore tradition that has quietly influenced fantasy literature for centuries.
