Várias Histórias

Várias Histórias is an anthology of short stories by Brazilian author Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis, published in 1896. The collection includes sixteen tales originally published in the newspaper Gazeta de Notícias between 1884 and 1891. Notable stories such as 'A Cartomante' and 'Um Apólogo' have become classics of Brazilian literature, despite the author's initial belief that they would not endure. This work showcases Machado de Assis's unique narrative style and his exploration of human psychology.
