The Story of a Great Delusion in a Series of Matter-of-Fact Chapters

A ferocious Victorian attack on the medical orthodoxy of vaccination, written with the conviction of a true believer and the precision of a polemicist. White presents a meticulous case against Edward Jenner, the father of vaccination, arguing that the entire practice rests on faulty science, medical hubris, and society's dangerous willingness to accept authority without question. The book traces the history of inoculation from its origins, examines Jenner's claims and methods, and builds a systematic argument that vaccination was not the medical breakthrough history would remember. What makes this text compelling is not whether White is right or wrong, but rather what it reveals about how societies process revolutionary medical claims and the resistance they provoke. This is a historical document of considerable curiosity: a window into Victorian medical skepticism, the politics of scientific authority, and the enduring human tendency to question what we're told is unquestionably good for us.
