The Ritual Movement

The Ritual Movement, written by James Galloway Cowan in the mid-19th century, is a compilation of three sermons delivered in the Anglican Church. Cowan addresses the significance of maintaining decency and order in worship practices, emphasizing the need for ritualistic expressions to honor God. The text discusses the historical context of church rituals, the conflicts stemming from the Reformation, and advocates for a return to traditional practices within the Anglican Church. It serves as a theological guide on the importance of ritual in worship while cautioning against excessive focus on form over substance.
