The preparation & mounting of microscopic objects

A window into the meticulous craft of early 20th century microscopy, this handbook reveals the exacting standards and patient techniques that made scientific observation possible. Thomas Davies walks the reader through every stage of specimen preparation, from the careful handling of delicate materials to the selection of mounting media, each decision carrying weight in an era before standardized commercial supplies. The book captures a moment when laboratory technique was as much art as science, where a scientist's steady hands and refined methods determined what could be seen and understood. For historians of science, microscopy enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the invisible work that underlies visible discoveries, this text offers both practical insight and a profound appreciation for the labor behind the lens.
