The Marbach Annals

The Marbach Annals, a 13th-century Latin chronicle from Alsace, is the first complete English translation of the Annales Marbacenses. Compiled by an anonymous author, likely Friedrich, provost of Strasbourg's St. Thomas Church, it chronicles significant events in the Holy Roman Empire from 1155 to 1238. The annals detail the reign of Frederick Barbarossa, the Third Crusade, the German civil war between Philip of Swabia and Otto of Brunswick, and the early reign of Frederick II. This work is valued for its objective and balanced perspective, making it a crucial primary source for understanding this historical period.
