The Legends of the Iroquois

The Legends of the Iroquois, first published in 1902, is a collection of Indigenous folklore compiled from stories told by Cornplanter, a Seneca chief. This work preserves the oral traditions and mythologies of the Iroquois Confederacy, offering insights into their values, beliefs, and connection to nature. The collection includes fourteen tales that convey lessons of loyalty, bravery, and kindness, alongside a discussion on the significance of preserving Indigenous legends. The text also features pictographs, the original writing system of many Native American peoples, enhancing the cultural authenticity of the narratives.
