The Dream-God, or, A Singular Evolvement of Thought in Sleep

A strange, feverish odyssey through the architecture of a sleeping mind. Written in the early 1870s, this obscure Victorian curio follows a consciousness untethered from waking reality, drifting through dreamscapes that shift and dissolve like reflections in disturbed water. The dreamer encounters visions of existence itself: the nature of being, the weight of thought, and the strange governance of inner worlds where logic bends and identity fragments. Cuningham writes with the Romantics' fascination with the human mind's hidden depths, yet there's something distinctly unsettling here, a morbidity beneath the philosophical abstraction. The prose moves like half-remembered music, circling back on itself, building arguments that dissolve into imagery. This is not narrative in any conventional sense. It's an experiment in consciousness, a Victorian attempt to map the unmapable. For readers drawn to the weird edges of 19th-century literature, to dreams that feel more real than waking life, or to the strange ancestors of modern speculative fiction.
