Spiritual Energies in Daily Life

What if the sacred isn't found in temples but in the kitchen, at the dinner table, in the way we treat our neighbors? Rufus M. Jones, the influential Quaker philosopher and mystic, offers a radical proposition: spiritual energy isn't a rare gift bestowed on the few, but a living force available to anyone who pays attention to the ordinary moments of daily life. Written in the early 20th century but striking remarkably contemporary notes, this book argues that true religion grows from the soil of home and family, not from distant rituals or abstract doctrine. Jones sees the personal self as the living center where experience becomes meaning, and he extends this vision outward to argue that democracy itself is a spiritual project, one that honors the infinite worth of every individual. Through clear, accessible prose, he weaves together inner life, social responsibility, education, and community into a unified vision of human flourishing. This is practical mysticism: faith not as belief alone, but as a way of moving through the world.
