Sagen Van Koning Arthur En De Ridders Van De Tafelronde

Before Sherlock Holmes, before James Bond, there was Arthur: a king pulled from stone, a kingdom built on hope, and a table where no knight sat above another. This Dutch collection gathers the immortal tales of Camelot, from Arthur's mysterious birth through his rise as Britain's golden monarch, to the tragic unraveling of everything he built. Here too are the stories that have haunted us for centuries: the impossible love between Tristan and Isolde, forbidden and fatal; the quest of Parsifal toward the Holy Grail, blind to what matters most; the brothers Balin and Balan, destined to destroy each other; and Lancelot, the greatest knight whose passion would cleave a kingdom in two. Montijn-de Fouw retells these legends with a quiet grace, stripping away centuries of accumulated varnish to reveal the raw emotional power beneath. Originally published in 1920 as an introduction for Dutch readers to the Arthurian tradition, this collection endures because it understands what these stories have always been about: the ache of trying to be good in a world that makes it impossible, the bonds of fellowship that both sustain and betray us, and the terrible price of fallen ideals. For anyone who has ever wondered what chivalry meant, what Camelot cost, or why these tales still echo in our collective imagination.
