NAL holdings: 1837-93 None published in 1846 In 1845 Mr. Ellsworth resigned and the Patent off. report for that year was prepared under direction of his successor, who had practiced law in New Hampshire from which state he had served as Representative in Cong. This was a doc. of 1,184 pp., nearly 1,100 of which were devoted to statistics and miscellaneous inf. on agricultural subjects. Much space was given to potato diseases. On account of the growing busines relating to patents and the dissatisfaction with the use of the patent fund for agricultural purposes, the commissioner suggested that Cong. make a special appropriation of other funds in the Treasury for t the agricultural work of the Patent office. The result was that Cong. did not make any approp. for such work in 1846. There is, therefore, no report for that year. Inf. given Miss Barnett by Dr. C.A. Browne, Bur. Agric. Chem. & Eng., in winter of 1940. Copies of the statement are tipped in the regular and reserve cops. of 1847 reports Annual reports on agriculture 1837-1848 were published in reports of the Patent Office; Reports for 1849-1861 were published as separate volumes of these reports. We have only the agriculture part, except for 1855, for which we have one copy of the other volume 1847(347256) lacks p.[1]-84 and pls. at end. 1848(50356, 347257-60) lack p. 817-1143 In early years some copies are House reports and some Senate Some nos on film S-49 It was discovered in March 1939 (Mrs. Watrous) that our copies of Reports, 1837-1843, were different from each other, and each set in report for 1841 lacks a few tables.
