Poetic Diction: A Study of Eighteenth Century Verse

Published in the early 20th century, 'Poetic Diction: A Study of Eighteenth Century Verse' by Thomas Quayle critiques the poetic language of the 18th century, particularly focusing on the concept of 'poetic diction.' Quayle examines the historical context following the 1798 publication of 'Lyrical Ballads' and addresses the misconceptions surrounding poets like Pope and Dryden. He analyzes various forms of poetic diction, such as Latinism and archaism, to highlight the significance of their contributions and the cultural conditions influencing their work.
