If necessary, click on Show More, below.   Herbert Read served as an officer in the 2nd, 7th and 10th battalions of the Yorkshire Regiment, the Green Howards, from 1915 to 1918. He was in the 2nd Battalion during the German Spring Offensive of March 1918. He received both the Military Cross (MC) and the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) "for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty".
