My Contemporaries in Fiction

My Contemporaries in Fiction, written by David Christie Murray in the late 19th century, is a collection of critical essays that analyzes the works of notable authors such as Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, and Rudyard Kipling. Murray critiques the literary landscape of his time, addressing the tendency of contemporary critics to over-praise mediocre writers while undervaluing established masters. He emphasizes the need for honest criticism to maintain the integrity of fiction and offers personal insights into his role as both a writer and critic.
