Folklore of Scottish Lochs and Springs

This is not a mere catalog of tales. It is a record of living magic, documented by a scholar who understood that the springs and lochs of Scotland were not merely water but doorways to something older. Mackinlay gathered accounts from across the Highlands and Lowlands: lochs that harbored water-horses and monsters, wells where people still left offerings and sought cures, rivers that knew the names of the drowned. What emerges is a portrait of a culture that never fully surrendered its ancient faith. The missionaries came, the churches were built, but the people still circumambulated sacred springs clockwise, still whispered prayers at certain stones, still knew which lochs to avoid after dark. This is the Scotland that persisted beneath the surface of kirk and crown - a world where water remembered what people had chosen to forget.
