Count Luckner, The Sea Devil

A well written, highly engaging narrative in the classic Lowell Thomas style. Not great literature. But great storytelling about events so outrageously fantastic and entertaining that if they weren't solidly based in fact they would be pretty much unbelievable as a movie script. The last great tale of windjamming buccaneering by a ship and crew who operated under rules of honorable and chivalric behavior alien in the modern world and disappearing in their own time.     There is enough seamanlike elaboration and perhaps a bit of exaggeration to give it the authenticity of a great sea tale.    Lowell Thomas masterfully brings to life Luckner's daring and unconventional tactics, as well as his charismatic personality and leadership style. Filled with gripping action, fascinating historical detail, and larger-than-life characters, "Count Luckner; The Sea Devil"  is a must read for fans of adventure, history, and seafaring.......(John M.
