Contos phantasticos
Contos phantasticos is a collection of short stories by Portuguese author Teófilo Braga, published in the late 19th century. The tales explore themes of intense passions leading to suicides, betrayals, and extreme renunciations, marking one of the earliest forays into Gothic literature in Portugal. Influenced by writers like E.T.A. Hoffmann and Edgar Allan Poe, Braga introduces elements of the strange, mysterious, and macabre, reflecting his knowledge of esoteric philosophy. The stories were previously published in the Jornal do Comércio and Revista Contemporânea in Portugal and Brazil.
