Colorado Wild Flowers

In the high meadows and alpine slopes of Colorado, a particular beauty emerges each summer, a riot of color that Alfred M. Bailey documented with the precision of a scientist and the eye of someone who truly saw. Originally published by the Denver Museum of Natural History, this field guide offers more than mere identification; it is a portrait of Colorado's wild places at a moment in time. The book provides detailed photographs and descriptions of common wildflowers across the state, from the lower foothills to the tundra's edge. Bailey's identification keys make this accessible to amateur naturalists while maintaining the rigor that satisfies those with botanical training. Whether you're planning a hike into the Rockies or simply want to know the name of that purple bloom along the roadside, this guide opens a door to understanding the intricate ecology of the Centennial State. What gives this small volume lasting value is its authenticity, produced in an era before digital photography, it captures wildflowers as they actually appeared in their native habitats. For anyone who has ever stopped on a mountain trail to marvel at a flower most people walk past, this book is an invitation to see more deeply.
