Cinderella's Prince

A forgotten gem of early children's literature that reimagines the Cinderella tale through the lens of Edwardian compassion. Young Ella Russell lives at Rose Cottage with her mother, her arm in splints, her father far away in Africa. When the curious Kenneth Snowden discovers her, he sees not a charity case but a friend, naming her "Cinderella" with genuine affection rather than mockery. The Snowden children slowly unravel Ella's quiet dignity and hidden hopes: a brighter future, a father's return, a life beyond hardship. This is not a story of magic glass slippers, but of something more radical for its time: kindness as a two-way street, class boundaries crossed not through fairy dust but through the simple, radical act of seeing another child's humanity. Gentle, warm, and surprisingly moving.
