Captain Billy's Whiz Bang, Vol. 2, No. 23, August, 1921

This is pure, undiluted 1920s American joy in magazine form. Captain Billy's Whiz Bang was the most widely read magazine in America during its heyday, and Volume 2, Number 23 delivers exactly why: razor-sharp jokes, cheeky essays, light verse, and the kind of irreverent satire that made post-WWI America laugh until it cried. The humor here is delightfully anarchic, poking fun at everything from pretentious professors to everyday absurdities, with a warmth that feels like spending an evening with clever relatives who refuse to take anything seriously. Reading it feels like stumbling into a time machine where the cocktails are stronger, the jokes are cleaner but sharper, and everyone agrees that the only proper response to modern life is to find it absolutely hilarious. For anyone craving a window into how Americans once found delight in wordplay and wit, this is pure gold.
