Five-act Italian Renaissance commedia, adapted from Plautus' Menaechmi by Bernardo Dovizi, later appointed cardinal by Pope Leo X. It was the first comedy of note written in Italian prose, and also one of the first modern plays to include cross-dressing characters Printing date of 1559 in colophon: "In Fiorenza, appresso i Giunti.
