The three parts of Britton's auto-biography were issued separately (parts 2 and 3 probably before part 1), each in two distinct editions, in octavo and quarto formats. The present description applies to the octavo edition of part 3 (the Appendix). 500 copies were printed in royal octavo format, and 150 in quarto format, 125 in royal quarto and 25 in imperial quarto (with "proofs" of the plates) The text consists of reprints of tracts and essays by Britton. The most substantial, "Essays on the merits and characteristics of William Shakespere ...", has a separate title page Advertisements on the final leaf "Charles Muskett, printer, Norwich"--Verso of the special title page Boston Public Library. Barton collection catalogue Cataloged Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy bound in green, embossed cloth, likely as issued. The armorial bookplate of the Barton Library is present on the front pastedown and a bibliographical inscription, initialled by Barton, is likewise present
