A pamphlet by William Ellery Channing, titled "A sermon, preached in Boston, July 23,1812, the day of the publick fast; appointed by the executive of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in consequence of the declaration of war against Great Britain." Printed in Boston by Greenough and Stebbins, 1812. Channing's sermon revolves around a text from Luke in which Christ weeps over Jerusalem, learning her future travails. He minimizes injuries to United States from Great Britain and emphasizes those from France. He decries the war as danger to property, morality, religion, independence, and finally invokes George Washington.
