Scattergood [apparently Thomas Scattergood, 1826-1900, M.R.C.S, L.S.A, dean of the medical department at the Yorkshire College, surgeon, and genealogist who wrote articles for the Dictionary of national biography (signing them as "T. S-D."); identified from an obituary in the London Times]; 2. Burndy Library ... gift of Bern Dibner. Herald of Science no. 44. The illegible autograph or other inscription of a former owner[s] appears faintly on the title leaves, as though it had been washed or bleached from the paper SCDIRB c. 1 has the Burndy Library's accession card in Dibner Library file for "part 3 [i.e. v. 2, pt. 1] ... bought at Low, 1943, for 26." SCDIRB c. 1 has tipped in on the front free endpaper of v. 1, pt. 1-2: a handwritten presentation note ([1] p.) from Scattergood on note-paper engraved with the address "41 Park Square, Leeds," addressed to "Dr. Thorpe F.R.S" and dated Oct. 18, [18]80. The recipient was presumably the British chemist, Thomas Edward Thorpe (1845-1925)
