The illegible autograph or other inscription of a former owner[s] appears faintly on the title leaves, as though it had been washed or bleached from the paper SCDIRB c. 1 has the Burndy Library's accession card in Dibner Library file for "part 3 [i.e. v. 2, pt. 1] ... bought at Low, 1943, for 26." SCDIRB c. 1 has tipped in on the front free endpaper of v. 1, pt. 1-2: a handwritten presentation note ([1] p.) from Scattergood on note-paper engraved with the address "41 Park Square, Leeds," addressed to "Dr. Thorpe F.R.S" and dated Oct. 18, [18]80. The recipient was presumably the British chemist, Thomas Edward Thorpe (1845-1925)
