A Few Remarks Concerning Makers of Singing Bird Boxes of the Eighteenth and…
A Few Remarks Concerning Makers of Singing Bird Boxes of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries is a historical examination of the craftsmanship behind singing bird boxes, focusing on artisans from Switzerland during the 18th and 19th centuries. The book discusses the intricate mechanics and artistry involved in these unique pieces, which were highly sought after by European courts. It highlights the decline in craftsmanship in modern times, noting that contemporary watchmakers have not replicated the complex movements of these antique boxes. This work serves as an important record of mechanical and decorative art from this period.
