A collection of narrative essays likely written in the late 19th century. The work explores themes of human emotions and social interactions through various anecdotes and tales, particularly focusing on the complexities of relationships influenced by jealousy. The opening of the text sets a scene filled with vivid descriptions of everyday life in a rural setting where people gather under bean trellises to share stories and discuss local news. The narrator introduces a dialogue among characters, combining poetry and prose, as they reflect on the topic of jealousy, particularly in women. Through the lore of figures like the tragic character Liu Boyu and his jealous wife, alongside humorously critical observations about jealousy as a recurring societal theme, the text begins to interweave entertaining stories with profound social commentary, suggesting that even harmless gatherings can reveal deep-seated emotions among neighbors.
