
Trees of Pride
Published in 1926, 'Trees of Pride' by G. K. Chesterton is a mystery novella centered around three trees, known as the Peacock trees, which the local peasants believe are responsible for a deadly fever. Squire Vane dismisses this superstition and wagers that he can spend a night among the trees to prove them wrong.
