Dramas De Guillermo Shakspeare [Vol. 1]

A collection of classic plays written in the late 19th century. This volume includes notable works such as ''El Mercader de Venecia,'' ''Macbeth,'' ''Romeo y Julieta,'' and ''Othello,'' exploring themes of love, revenge, and morality through rich characters and intricate plots. At the start of ''El Mercader de Venecia,'' we are introduced to Antonio, a merchant in Venice, who is inexplicably sad. His friends, Salarino and Salanio, speculate about his melancholy, suggesting it's related to his ships at sea. This scene sets the tone for the play’s exploration of friendship and financial ventures, hinting at Antonio's complex relationships with his friends Basanio and Shylock, a Jewish moneylender who plays a pivotal role in the story. The opening also introduces themes of love and social status as Basanio seeks financial help to woo Portia, a wealthy heiress, foreshadowing the conflicts and challenges that will arise in pursuit of love and fortune.
