Around the World in Eighty Days
Phileas Fogg, a precise and reclusive English gentleman, wagers his entire fortune that he can circumnavigate the globe in exactly eighty days. Armed with determination, a revolver, and his infallibly organized schedule, he sets off across continents with his resourceful French valet Passepartout, racing against the clock and the doubters of London society. From the storm-tossed decks of steamships to the backs of elephants, from the neon-lit streets of Yokohama to the frozen passes of the American West, Fogg and his companion encounter kidnapping, bank robbers, sandstorms, and the stubborn inequities of a world still being mapped. But the greatest obstacle may be the detective in relentless pursuit, convinced that this prim Englishman's fortune was made from crime. What begins as a test of mathematics becomes a journey into the heart of what it means to be alive.
