Off on a Comet
A comet grazes the Earth and snatches up a motley crew of forty souls from across the globe, carrying them on a two-year cosmic odyssey through the solar system. Among them is Captain Hector Servadac, a Napoleonic-era French cavalry officer, whose小块 of Mediterranean coast gets ripped away into the void. What follows is Verne at his most delightfully absurd: a society of Russians, English, Spaniards, and Arabs must learn to coexist on a comet the size of a small nation, braving temperatures that plummet past anything earthly and marveling at Saturn's rings up close. It's part adventure story, part thought experiment, and part gentle satire of colonial attitudes, asking what happens when national pride meets absolute interdependence. The science is gloriously wrong, but the imagination is impeccable.
