King Coal

King Coal, published in 1917 by Upton Sinclair, reveals the harsh working conditions in the coal mining industry in the early 20th century United States. Through the eyes of Hal Warner, the protagonist, Sinclair critiques the oppressive capitalist system, drawing on the real events of the 1914-1915 Colorado coal strikes. This novel continues Sinclair's exploration of socialist themes, similar to his earlier work, The Jungle, highlighting the struggles of laborers against exploitation.
