Modest Proposal

A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Swift in 1729, is a satirical pamphlet that suggests impoverished Irish families sell their children as food to wealthy landowners. This shocking suggestion serves to highlight the dire poverty and social injustices faced by the Irish population at the time. Swift's work is notable for its incisive critique of British policy and its use of irony to expose the barbarity of the societal attitudes towards the poor. The pamphlet remains a powerful example of political satire and social commentary.
