Cruise of the Dazzler
Published in 1902, 'Cruise of the Dazzler' is Jack London's first full-length novel, centered on young Joe Bronson, who runs away from home to escape his father's threats of military school. Joining the crew of the sloop Dazzler, he soon discovers that his captain, Pete Le Maire, is involved in criminal activities. The novel draws on elements from London's own youth in San Francisco, including his experiences with a sloop he owned. This adventure story reflects themes of rebellion and the search for identity.
