Geminiano Montanari was an influential Italian astronomer and lens-maker, recognized for his significant contributions to the experimental approach in science during the 17th century. A member of several learned societies, including the Accademia dei Gelati, Montanari mentored a number of notable students, such as Domenico Guglielmini and Francesco Bianchini, helping to shape the next generation of scientific thought. Montanari is best remembered for his groundbreaking observation of the star Algol in the constellation Perseus around 1667.
