Galen

Galen

Galen was a prominent Greek physician, surgeon, and philosopher whose work laid the foundations for much of modern medicine. Born in Pergamon, he studied medicine in various centers of learning, including Alexandria, where he honed his skills in anatomy and physiology. Galen's extensive writings, which encompass over 350 works, cover a wide range of topics including medical theory, the philosophy of science, and the practice of medicine. His most notable texts, such as "On the Natural Faculties" and "On the Usefulness of the Parts of the Body," explored the functions of the human body and established principles that dominated medical thought for centuries.

“I will not deny that my heart has long occupied itself with the most tender feelings for another. So strong were these impulses that I indulged myself by thinking that if I could not have him whom I admired whom I will admit it now when I would not before I loved then I would never want another. However those are sentiments best saved for one of Lily's romances. The heart is a far more practical thing and in its life is happily capable of more than a single attachment.””
