Question 1

What's the best Edmund Goldsmid book to start with?

Accepted Answer

For most readers, Quaint Gleanings from Ancient Poetry: A Collection of Curious Poetical Compositions of the Xvith, Xviith, and Xviiith Centuries is the most popular Edmund Goldsmid title on Lex. It's available free as both an ebook and a downloadable EPUB, so you can sample it before committing to a longer work.

Question 2

How is Lex different from Project Gutenberg for reading Edmund Goldsmid?

Accepted Answer

Lex sources public domain books from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, and the Internet Archive, but adds a modern reader (custom fonts, themes, highlights, bookmarks, dark mode), human-narrated audiobooks for the major works, native iOS and Android apps, and reading progress sync across devices. Project Gutenberg provides the raw EPUB files; Lex turns them into a reading experience.

Question 3

Is Lex free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Lex is free to use for all public domain books and audiobooks, including every Edmund Goldsmid title. No signup is required to read or listen. A premium tier exists for AI features and exclusive originals, but the entire public domain catalog is free forever.
