Fisherman and his Soul

Fisherman and his Soul
A fisherman nets a mermaid and loses himself entirely to love. But a mermaid's love demands an impossible price: the fisherman must sever his soul from his body to live beneath the sea. What follows is Wilde at his most darkly poetic the soul wanders the world in search of its master, encountering witch doctors, merchants, and a dance of death, while the fisherman drowns in bliss with his beloved in the depths. Yet no love, however pure, can outrun the soul's long memory. When the soul returns to claim its owner, the fisherman faces the cruelest choice: return to land and lose his mermaid, or remain in the sea and lose his humanity forever. This is a fairy tale that understands love demands annihilation, and that some prices cannot be paid twice.
