Financier
Financier, written by Theodore Dreiser in 1912, follows the rise and fall of Frank Cowperwood, a young man from Philadelphia who begins his career by buying and reselling soap. As he climbs the financial ladder, he engages in embezzlement and becomes embroiled in political corruption during the aftermath of the Great Chicago Fire and the Panic of 1873. This novel is the first in Dreiser's Trilogy of Desire, exploring themes of ambition, greed, and the moral complexities of capitalism.
